Can Christians Love Disney? What We Believe...

This is a question I struggled with for a long time. Is it possible to love Disney as a Christian? Am I wrong for loving Disney?

Essentially... no. It's not wrong to love Disney if you are a Christian. We have been given a new life in Christ, and that life is meant to be enjoyed! As I've learned how I can love Disney and be a Christian, here are a few lessons I've learned.

If you are a Disney-loving Christian and you're wondering how you can honor the Lord with your love for Disney... I hope these lessons encourage you!

Lesson #1: A Love for Disney is not the Same as an Identity in Disney

There is a huge difference between the heart that loves Disney and the heart that finds its identity in Disney.

When your identity is in Disney, it will affect your emotions. Your mood for the day will be based on your nearest trip. Tough days at work will leave you dreaming for that Disney trip in a few months. And yet... you'll always want more.

That's because the only One who can satisfy our lives is Jesus Christ. If your identity is in Jesus, then you will love Disney in a sweet way that reflects the beauty of His creation. It will all point you back to Him.

Lesson #2: A Life for Christ isn't Boring... Go to Disney!

Too many times in my life, I believed that living for Jesus was all about being serious and sober. Key word: all. The Bible commands us to be sober-minded and wise. But do you know what else the Bible says? That Jesus came to give us abundant and full life (John 10:10). Does this mean we get everything we want like a prosperity-gospel movement? Nope. Life is full of trials (James 1:2-3). But even through trials, we know that Jesus has saved us and given us an abundantly full life here on earth.

I love a quote from Ruth Chou Simons podcast:

"The God of the universe gave us a world where we have sensory memories. Things about enjoying life teach us lessons we wouldn't learn otherwise, that we're human and need community, that life isn't meant to be all about work. We are created to rest NOT because we finished the work, but because God gave it to us. We learn that we're still children, we're never outgrowing being children of God. God has such a creative eye and a sense of humor!"

This quote just screamed Disney. It's a fun place where we remember that God gave us rest because of His death on the cross. It's a place to experience all the sights, smells, and sounds through the miracle bodies He gave us. We feel like children at Disney because it's so fun, and it's a reminder that we're always God's children. Do we look to Jesus as our Father like a child? Do we thank the Lord for the creative minds He made that created Disney?

I hope these two lessons are an encouragement to your heart if you're a Disney-loving Christian. Disney is such a fun place. It's a place we get to enjoy in our freedom in Christ... but remember, it's not our identity.
